Pat Davenport Uses a Combination of Legacy Gifts to Support Tomorrow’s Scholar-Athletes
Patricia (Murray) Davenport ’70 has a two-pronged plan in place to honor her late husband, her family, and future Saint Anselm student-athletes. Pat is using her IRA’s annual qualified charitable distributions to establish a track and field scholarship while naming Saint Anselm as a beneficiary of her life insurance policy.
Pat says these gifts are two wonderful ways to support Saint Anselm’s mission and its future scholars.
“IRA gifts are great—it’s money I really didn’t need for my budget—and life insurance proceeds make a big impact when they pay out, after I am gone!” Pat says.
A Massachusetts native now living in Auburn, NH, Pat has many good reasons to include Saint Anselm in her estate plan. It is where she met her husband of 51 years, Jim ’69, where she received a “tremendous nursing education,” and where she gained a strong sense of “personal and nursing ethics.”
Pat has clear goals for her gifts. As she says, “I hope that the track and field program at Saint Anselm College will grow and thrive over the years, that my gifts will support many generations of runners, both male and female, and that others will follow my example, contributing not only to our family’s endowed funds but creating their own legacies at the college through gift planning.”
She urges others to follow her example. “Just don’t be afraid to check it out! There are so many benefits, both to the school and to you and your family. And it feels good!”
